The Nova Orion 18 in. DVR Wood Lathe combines all the best features of today's larger lathes including power, capacity, and capability with state-of-the-art technology to make your turning more efficient, fun and safer. Great for those who need all the workshop space they can get: the lathe can be configured with a compact footprint, or using the bed extension, the Orion can be extended to suit longer projects as needed. The swivel head and articulated Outrigger Accessory (sold separately), together with the flexible bed configuration, means that even when turning large bowls (29 in.), you are still turning in the same compact area. The Orion gives you Power to Turn and Burn with its 1.75 HP 110/2HP 220V DVR motor and provides more power and torque than any competitive 18 in. lathe on the market. With no pulleys or belts to vibrate, the award-winning DVR Direct Drive Motor is incredibly smooth and delivers intelligent control to your turning experience. The Nova DVR Motor also delivers an incredible variable speed range that includes a very low speed of 100 RPM up to an incredibly high speed of 5,000 RPM. This makes it the perfect solution for a wide variety of projects from small pens to large bowls and platters. The ability to program up to 8 favorite speeds, the Orion instantly and efficiently allows the user to toggle to their desired speed. When it comes to capacity, Orion delivers with 18 in.over the bed and 29 in.capacity with the optional outrigger accessory. Overall distance between centers using the extension bed is 45 in. The 360-degree swiveling headstock locks at any position and includes locating detents at 0 degrees, 22.5 degrees, 45 degrees and 90 degrees. The tailstock is self-ejecting. The bed has CAD designed webbing to absorb vibration throughout the bed length and provides exceptional structural strength.
